“H2O: Home, Hope, Origin” is a visually poetic 3-channel video projection installation that explores the journey of an immigrant Mexican woman. She navigates through life in water, striving to understand her identity beyond her name.
Water is the foundation of “H2O: Home, Hope, Origin” as it symbolizes the beginning of life, but also the dangers of the unknown. It is also a tribute to those who have lost their lives in the waters with the dream of a better life.
The installation depicts her experiences of leaving her home, maintaining hope, and holding onto elements from her origin and past, such as her mother's presence, religion, language, and flag.
The act of immigrating is transformative, and while it can be dangerous at times, it also holds a certain beauty in what one brings to their new home. The installation prompts the question of whether identity extends beyond a person's name, bilingualism, memories, history, or their connection to their mother or motherland.
